20 Powerful Bible Verses on Forgiving Others

“Not forgiving is like drinking cat poison and then waiting for the rat to die.” – Anne Lamott

How well do you forgive others?
I have really started to think about how poorly I am at forgiving others. I hold on to a grudge for years. But I realize that I am not allowed to hold such a thing in my life as a christian. I have found 20 verses from Bible to change my attitude. God calls us to forgive others. How can we expect forgiveness to be lavished upon us if we don’t share the same sentiments on forgiving others?

    1. It sounds as if you have taken a positive and meaningful step to heal the situation you are in. When you condemn someone, then there is nothing they can do to make things better because you will not allow yourself to see the good in them. You have realised that you hold the key to resolution. That is so good to hear. It will not go unnoticed and it will be the saviour of your situation. Well done.

Why is it necessary to find good in them in order to forgive?......My father abused me in all the ways a person can, and today I am still suffering the physical scars.....loss of hearing, damage to my internal organs and spine.......I did realize later in life, that he was a tortured man, but never managed to find anyting to like or see good in him.....I forgave him copletely through praying at least nine times a day until it became reality........

  8. There is a difference between forgiving someone and allowing them to continue to abuse you. When God forgave us, he said that the penalty for our sin, death, was paid. He said that He separated our sins from us -- as far as the east is from the west. Obviously, God has mitigated some of the ramifications of my sin, but I still suffer from the natural consequences of my sins -- years later. If we are to forgive the way God does, I guess we decide not to punish them for their sins. Pray and ask God to take the bitterness from your heart, because you can't do it on your own. It isn't a "natural" thing. Ask a close confidant, who isn't directly involved, to pray for you to have the grace to forgive.

    1. I once heard someone of knowledge say that forgiveness is not for those who have wronged us, but rather for ourselves, so that we may have peace. It is hard to live with all the hate and anger. It can eat us alive, and cause us to be ill. I believe that forgiveness is more about acceptance of those who have wronged us and letting the hurt go. We can forgive, but that does not mean we need to continue to place ourselves in a position to be hurt or abused again. We just let go of the hurt, accept the person who wronged us as he or she is,hope that both they and you have grown from your experience, and then from a place of knowledge, must decide how much energy and trust to place in them in the future, without condemnation. It is a very difficult thing to do.

Evangeline Neufville. Sometimes forgiving somebody who hurt you can be a hard thing to do, but holding something against another is even a heavier load to carried. This very moment in my life I am dealing with hurt and regrette but God lead me to read these verses and now I am gonna be able to sleep because I have decided to forgive and let the hurt wash away from me. I am gonna give God the glory and honor because as christains, it is written that we are require to give God thing through all things. Even through the hurting pains. Thank Jesus.

All comments very true i have yet to come to the full acknowledgement of letting go and let god deal peace of mind and heart and move on forgive those who might not know what they are doing so i must be the bigger person to someones ignorance then continue from there then what continue letting it blow over when is enough enough til you stop forgiving and deal with it a manly way torn at the heart heavy with grudge help.
